No carbon tax protest Brisbane 2011

May 7, 2011 — 1 Comment

I went to a protest at Queensland Parliament House against Carbon tax. I haven’t really formed a strong opinion about it but I try to cover some political events in Brisbane. I have previously covered a pro-choice vs pro-life event but I didn’t write an article about it because the issue is too sensitive for me to muddle through it.

For carbon tax I think there’s two main arguments:

  • The science of climate change, is it true or false.
  • Will a tax actually do anything about it or will it just cost the public more.

I dont know the details of who gets taxed and how much or how that gets done and I lean towards the science being true but I havent made up my mind. I took some pictures and recorded a video. You can click the images to see them fullsize.

I took 26 photos, I think I took a photo of all the speakers and many more of the crowd and their signage, you can see the rest on the facebook album or if you prefer higher quality without the social networking then visit the No Carbon Tax Protest album on my gallery.

I recorded parts of the talks by the speakers that you can watch below.

If that doesn’t work for some odd reason then watch No carbon tax protest Brisbane 2011 video on youtube.

If the tax is to make us use less and will put the price up then explain this to me

“Energy Minister Stephen Robertson described the outcome as “perverse” but said consumers would benefit in years when they used more power than predicted. “As perverse as it sounds there has been a slight upward adjustment to take into account the mild summer,” he said.
“But next year we could have a very hot summer and the reverse would apply under those circumstances.”

The less you use the more it costs??
