This was my third year in a row of visiting the festival and it was just as amazing as the other times, this is probably my favourite event of the year. Its nice to get out of the city and step into another time.
I know the word reenactors is used to describe many of the people in the events but when they are jousting and battling it doesn’t seem fitting to me, its not like they are choreographed and are reenacting a fight, they are really going at it, it can be brutal at times.
I’ve also heard in terms of authenticity that the medieval professions, costumes, crafts etc are highly regarded.
After last year I managed to make friends with some of the people I took photos of, well maybe I could say virtual friends, in any case I was happy that I got to say hi to Katherine J Norris and see how she was and do my best to take a good photo for her. Knowing people through social networks gives me a lot of insight into how much preparation and work goes into events like this, its no exaggeration to say at least months maybe even years if you include collecting various items. Its also nice to see what interesting things people get up to and sometimes show a little support to get through the daily grind
Its a shame that I didn’t spend more time there, originally we planned to make costumes and camp there overnight but we didn’t get around to it and couldn’t really find any info about camping. Some other work commitments came into play as well but maybe we can get it all right next year. There’s other really awesome photographers who were there the entire time so hopefully they leave a comment to make it easier to check that out.
Anyway lets look at a few photos and I’ll provide links at the end to check out more if you like them. You can click on them to see them bigger.
